Description Summary:

The embedded YouTube Playlist players (with iframe HTML or iframe API) or the Mobile browsers (Android) crash or terminate during playback of embedded playlists or videos when the "Watch on YouTube" overlay/badge is present on the bottom-right. This issue does not occur on desktop browsers, or 'in desktop mode' on mobile browser. The crash occurs within a few minutes.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a mobile web browser (e.g., Chrome, Opera, Edge, Brave, Firefox Mobile).
  2. Navigate to the webpagehttps://lalelal.me/bd-news-views (embeds some playlists).
  3. Scroll down to any embedded YouTube playlist that displays the "Watch on YouTube" overlay/badge in the bottom-right corner.
  4. Tap the play button on the embedded video player.
  5. Observe the behavior.

Expected Behavior:

The embedded YouTube playlist video should play normally and continuously without any browser or player termination.

Actual Behavior:

Either the mobile browser tab crashes, often displaying an "Aw Snap" message (or similar error message), or the embedded playlist players (loaded ones) crashes, or freezes, or turns gray with an unhappy emoji, and terminates playback. This consistently happens when the "Watch on YouTube" overlay/ badge is visible on the player. The crash occurs within a few minutes.

Visual: Mobile Browser's 'Aw Snap' and player crash

Affected Environments:

• Operating Systems & Devices:

  • Android [Version: 13, 14, 15]
  • iOS: [Did not test].

• Mobile Browsers & Exact Versions:

  • Chrome Mobile: [Version: 137.0.7151.72]
  • Opera with AI & VPN [Version: 89.5.4705.84314]
  • Firefox Mobile: [Version: 139.0.3]
  • Microsoft Edge AI [Version: 137.0.3296.53]
  • Brave [Version: 1.79.119]
  • Safari on iOS: [Did not test]

Unaffected Environments:

• This issue does NOT occur on desktop browsers (Windows), and 'in desktop mode' on mobile (Android) browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Brave and Edge.

Troubleshooting Performed:

• Standard iframe HTML code as well as iframe API embed code are implemented and tested.

• Tested across multiple distinct mobile devices and mobile browser applications.

• Ensured all tested browsers were fully up-to-date to their latest versions.

• Both normal and incognito modes of the browser are tested on.

• Performed complete cache and cookie clears on all affected mobile browsers prior to testing.

• Confirmed a stable and strong internet connection during testing.

• Verified that there are no JavaScript errors or warnings visible in the browser console on the client-side, suggesting that the issue may lie within the embedded YouTube script(s).

• Implemented lazy loading for all video embeds on the webpage. Moreover, only one video can be played at a time.

• Issue occurs within a few minutes of video playback.

• This issue was not present before the video overlay was implemented, suggesting that a recent change or regression in the YouTube player may be responsible.

• It seems that the browser/ player are crashing more with the embedded playlists than with the embedded videos.
